Byron Bay attracts sybarites, backpackers, culture vultures, party goers, surfers, hippies and naturalists in equal measure, it’s allure is captivating year round. With thanks to the upcoming Queen’s Birthday long weekend, many Australians are packing their bags, Byron Bay bound. There’s always a myriad to do in and around Byron.
North of town, Brunswick Heads becomes a hive of activity as hundreds of people stroll the streets in search of a bargain and don’t we all love a good bargain? The Old and Gold Festival, celebrating its 10th year provides a stage for an all town garage sale with a record 69 houses participating. Also held in various locations will be plenty of activities and fairs, including;
- Collectables Fair at the Memorial Hall
- Ye Olde Church Garden Fair with clothes and bric-a-brac
- School Bric a Brac and Toy Fair
- Pottery & Crafts Fair at the Wheel of Life Studios
- Secondhand Book Fair at the Brunswick Visitor Centre
If you’re into vintage fashion, collectables, antiques or anything secondhand, The Old and Gold Festival in Brunswick Heads is for you! 8am-3pm Saturday the 11th June.
To the south there’s a “walk for whales” at 9am this Saturday from Suffolk Park, along Tallows Beach to the Cape Byron Lookout. This is a friendly gathering of admirers of these magnificent marine mammals that are gracing our fine shores on their journey north to warmer waters.
There’s fun for all the family at the Macadmia Castle – Animal Fun and Adventure Park. You’ll enjoy farm animal feeding, train rides, mini golf and what’s more you can dine in the café or bring your own picnic or barbeque.
In the heart of town, at the iconic Beach Hotel or top pub as the locals like to call it, you may like to sip a locally brewed Stone and Wood beer while watching free live entertainment daily – Friday – Watussi, Saturday – DJ Nowak & DJ Beatdusta and Sunday – Ragga Jump & DJ Longtime.
If you’re lucky enough to stay in town until next week, you’ll see Australia’s favourite crooner, Pete Murray, headlining a fundraiser concert at Mullumbimby Civic Hall on Friday the 17th of June.
